A Veterans’ Day
to be proud of
Newport Elementary School students and hundreds of local residents
celebrated “Proud to be an American Day” Monday as a prelude to
Veteran’s Day.
Military personnel and veterans, Boy and Girl scouts, as well as
other children took part in the program, which featured patriotic
songs and lessons in flag etiquette on the school’s beach-front
playground. The tall ship Lynx fired its cannons just off the coast
to finish and end the assembly.
* Most of the 14 special education students kept home from Corona
del Mar High School earlier this month to protest classroom
conditions stayed home last week again.
Parents have complained that the room is understaffed, infested
with rats and cockroaches and that children’s educational plans are
not being followed. District representatives met with parents twice
this week and said that the room will have two new aides and that
pest control measures are being taken.
