Four Laguna Beach High fall sports teams have qualified for the CIF
Southern Section playoffs, which began Thursday with two Breakers
squads kicking off their postseasons.
In girls’ tennis, Laguna, which tied for the Pacific Coast League
championship with Corona del Mar but carries the league’s No. 2 seed
into the playoffs, began its quest for the Division I crown Thursday
against visiting Canyon of Anaheim.
The Comanches are ranked third in the Century League.
A win over Canyon would put Laguna, which reached the semifinal
round last year, into a Saturday second-round match against the
winner of another Thursday match between Foothill and Etiwanda.
The Laguna boys’ water polo team also made its way into the
Division I playoffs, earning the PCL’s No. 3 seed and took on Sea
View League champion Foothill Thursday.
A victory over the Knights moves Laguna into a second-round match
against the winner of Thursday’s match between Loyola and San
Clemente.
Laguna’s boys’ and girls’ cross county teams will participate
Saturday at the CIF Southern Section prelims at Mount San Antonio
College in Walnut.
The Breaker girls will run a Division IV heat at 8:27 a.m. and the
boys will run their Division IV heat at 9:51 a.m.
