Pacific Coast Riptide, a 12-and-under team affiliated with Pacific
Coast Girls Fastpitch Softball, traveled to Mission Viejo to battle
the Angels and swept a doubleheader behind solid hitting as the
Riptide scored 23 runs in two games.
The Riptide captured the opener, 11-8, then won again, 12-5.
The first game was a tight struggle for the first three innings
before the Riptide exploded for six runs in the fourth inning,
highlighted by Amy Smith’s triple to the gap in left field driving in
two runs. Melanie Sitzer walked and Amanda Ring had a key base hit to
set the table for Elizabeth Cramer, who drove in one of the runs.
Lauren Tolfa contributed two RBIs offensively along with coming in to
pitch the final two innings, striking out two to complete the
victory.
The second game had the Riptide taking control from the beginning.
After Tolfa started the game in the pitching circle and shut the
Angels down in the first, Courtney Francis followed up with three
strong innings and Kelsie Soltero completed the game.
The game was highlighted by fine defensive efforts. Brittany
Martinez stopped a potential Angel rally in the third on a tough
pop-up. Jessica Brockett at first base and Jade Watts in center field
also made nice defensive plays. Offensively, multiple hits by Cramer,
Emma Zublin and Francis helped spark rallies.
