Sea Serpents win pair; playoffs next

The Sea Serpents, a boys’ Under-10 Division team out of AYSO Region
55, concluded regular season play with a pair of shutout victories.
They defeated the Silver Strikers and the Fast and Furious by 1-0
scores and next will play in the postseason tournament.
In the 1-0 win over the Silver Strikers, Justin Rogers scored the
game’s lone goal on an assist from Sean McCormick.
Randy Harrison and Tyler Hammock made several stops in goal and
were backed by the defense of McCormick, Michael Tomasek and Jeremy
Chavira.
Against the Fast and Furious, Tomasek again played a big role on
defense and also scored the winning goal.
McCormick, Chavira, Micah Beaubien and Spenser Gramm led the
defense.
Region 117 Under-14 Division
No Names 3, Boomerangs 1
The No Names grabbed a 2-0 halftime lead and never looked back in
winning this first-round playoff game Monday night.
Brandon Messer scored off a Jeff Wold assist for a 1-0 lead and
Eric Bergeron scored on a breakaway in the second quarter to give the
No Names a two-goal lead at the break.
The play of Andrew Lindsey, Riley Miller, David Hopkins, Jared
Mossembekker and Justin Rodriguez gave the No Names control of the
center of the field.
In the third period, Bergeron fired a direct kick into the
Boomerangs’ half of the field, which Messer tracked down and then put
the ball into the net for a 3-0 lead.
The Boomerangs scored on a penalty kick in the fourth period, the
only goal allowed by keeper Eddie Rodriguez and a defensive effort of
sweeper Read Hersh and fullback Matt McCoy and James Hensley.
In girls’ AYSO playoff action:
Under-12 Division
Region 56
Sour Grapes 6, Smurfs 1
Brittani Glendon burned the net for five goals and the Sour Grapes
opened postseason play with an impressive victory.
Each of Glendon’s five goals were assisted by Melody Sainz, who
scored the final Sour Grapes goal.
Sabrina Hoyle, Melysa Siller, Megan Kabre, Julianne Lucas and
Stephanie Diciurcio aided the Sour Grapes’ offense.
Sainz and Abby Kerfoot shared goaltending duties and were backed
by the defensive play of Natalie Rossa, Kelsey Kennedy, Marissa
Norton, Auryell Garcia and Rachael Adair.
HB Crush 4, San Clemente 0
Arielle Freleaux, Lily Khosroupour, Danielle Miller and Taylor
Thorpe provided strong defense which allowed HB Crush to shutout
their San Clemente rival.
George Demes led the offense with two goals and Alison Hensley and
Rachel Pasternak each scored once.
Assists were handed out by Ali Budd, Breanne Justice and Erika
Longoria.
Region 55
Pulverizers 4, Red Hotties 2
In their last game of the season, the Pulverizers opened up a 3-0
halftime lead and went on to victory.
Elizabeth Mulcahy’s goal off a Sarah Howey assist gave the
Pulverizers a quick 1-0 lead. It great to 2-0 in the second quarter
when the two players reversed roles and Howey scored off a Mulcahy
feed.
It was 3-0 by the half after Mulcahy’s second assist fed Melissa
Markowitz for the score.
In the third period, the Red Hotties trimmed the deficit to 3-1
when Paige Marks scored off a Bianca Betz assist. The Pulverizers
answered back when Peterson scored on a Holly Imming assist to make
it 4-1.
Jessica Escobar’s fourth quarter pass set up Raye Kreidel’s goal
for a 4-2 final.
Ripcurl 6, HB Contusions 1
Goals went to Devon Shinn, Cassandra Davis, Chelsea Salisbury,
Stephanie Schmidt and Christian Stout, as Ripcurl rolled in
postseason play.
Assists went to Rachel Osman, Taylor DeGrote, Geena Martinez and
Kaycee Rogers.
Under-10 Division
Region 117 Hammerheads 4, Cheetah Girls 0
Brooke Berry scored her first goal of the season and Danielle
Duron scored a game-best two goals for the Hammerheads.
Diane McEveety helped preserve the shutout.
