Penalty helps Pink Lightning

The Pink Lightning began the playoffs with a 2-1 victory over the
Raiderettes in a girls under-12 AYSO Region 57 soccer game Saturday.
Jaden Heinecke scored in the first quarter on an assist from Erin
Almaraz while Tiffany Paladin, Reede Dahlfors, Alison Deverian and
Hannah Kubat provided additional offense.
Annie Rafferty led the defense at sweeper with several saves made
by goalkeepers Dana Lowery and Shelby Bracho.
Kyla Winkle scored on a kick from midfield to put the Raiderettes
on the board.
A hand ball call in the box during the fourth quarter led to a
penalty kick by Almaraz, which ended in the winning goal.
Jacqueline Urbanus, Marie Rudulpho and Lauren Pederson kept up the
pressure for the Lightning.
In girls under-14 playoff action:
* Deja Blue 1, Senoritas 1:
Deja Blue took the lead in the first half on a goal from Olivia
Paladin and goalkeeper Gelyne Prow turned away numerous shots,
including one where she collided with an opponent near the penalty
box in the second half.
She battled through the rest of the game as both teams had
numerous late chances to break the tie.
In boys under-11 action:
* Corona del Mar Select 3, Yorba Linda 1:
Brennan Anderson scored two fourth-period goals to lift CdM to the
victory.
Kjell Wolker scored on a header off a Mason Case assist to get CdM
even at 1 before Blake Thomsen and Jack Gorab assisted Anderson for
his two goals.
CdM controlled the game’s tempo with Taylor Ross, Brent Lawson,
Will Morrow and Hector Marino firing shots on goal.
Nick Curci, Garrett Larson, Jensen Rhinehart and Brent Gray led
the defense in front of goalkeeper Clark Cashion.
In girls under-10 play:
* Green Bombers 3, Red Hot Chili Peppers 2:
Paulina Leach scored two goals, but it was not enough against the
Green Bombers.
Rachel Cashion and Skylar Dapp provided the assists with Jenna
Funsten, Caroline Grant and Chloe Dapp leading the offense.
Taylor Elmajian, Jaqueline Adams and Lexie Shaw anchored the
defense while covering the field.
