St. Catherine students honored

Four students at St. Catherine Catholic School were accepted into

the People World Leadership Forum -- Ian Contorelli, Shannon Daley,

Grace Vu and Dylan West. They joined a select group of students in

Washington D.C. on Oct. 20 through Oct. 26, to earn school credit

while exploring the nation’s capitol.

Forum delegates participated in small-group discussions and

exercises to experience first hand how leaders develop strategies,

make decisions build consensus and foster change.

The accepted students were nominated and accepted for the honor

based on outstanding scholastic merit, civic involvement and

leadership potential.

The program is coordinated by People to People Ambassador

Programs.

Break Nov. 19

The next Coffee Break is a special evening event from 7 to 9 p.m.

at the Surf and Sand Hotel. The topic is “Uncommon Sense for Parents

with Teenagers” by Michael Riera, Ph.D.

Judges needed for speech contest

St. Catherine’s Catholic School is looking for a few judges for

their annual speech contest on Nov. 26.

Those interested in judging should call Doranne Lacayo at (949)

SchoolPower beats fund-raising goal

SchoolPower, the charitable foundation that raises funds for the

four schools in the Laguna Beach Unified School District, has

surpassed its goal of $260,000 by raising $285,000 so far this year.

This is particularly important due to the $400,000 state cut of the

district’s budget.

TOW raising funds for Jog-A-Thon

The Top of the World Elementary School PTA is beginning to raise

money for the 2004 Jog-A-Thon.

Those who contribute $100 or more before Dec. 1 will have their

name on the Jog-A-Thon T-shirt, which all 600 students will wear

during the event.

Donors will also become members of Top of the World’s Dolphin

Club. Their names will be on a banner that will be displayed on

campus until the event. A store sign will be provided to let

customers know the business supports the students, and special

seating will be provided during the event, which will take place The

event will be March 12 on the school’s athletic field.
