Arts lecture to benefit shelters, scholarships
A lecture on “Unique Art and Architecture Around the World” at
Orange Coast College on Friday will benefit two homeless shelters and
three OCC scholarships.
During the annual lecture, fine arts professor Irini
Vallera-Rickerson will show slides of hand-painted houses at Ndebele
in Africa, rock-top monasteries in Meteora, Greece, and sculptures in
the Tuscany Tarot Garden of Nikki De Phalle.
Money raised at the lecture will go to two homeless shelters for
people affected by AIDS, in association with the AIDS Service
Foundation of Orange County, and three OCC arts and humanities
scholarships in memory of artists P.J. Freeman and David Torosian.
A food drive is also being held in conjunction with the OCC
Sociology Club and Native American Club. People are asked to bring
nonperishable food to be collected at the door.
The lecture will take place from 8 to 9:30 p.m. Friday in the
Robert B. Moore Theatre on the OCC campus. Tickets may be purchased
at the door at 7:40 p.m. for $10, and additional donations are
welcome.
