UCI, Pacific tie

UC Irvine sophomore Kim Lloyd scored in the 82nd minute to pull the

visiting Anteaters even and two overtime periods settled nothing in a

1-1 Big West Conference women’s soccer tie with the University of the

Pacific Sunday.

UCI freshman goalkeeper Marissa Welliver had six saves, while

Laura Guerin had three for the Tigers, who went ahead in the 73rd

minute on a goal by Carmen Padilla.

UCI is now 7-3-4, 1-1-2 in conference, while Pacific is 3-8-2,

2-1-1.

The Anteaters play host to Idaho Friday at 7 p.m. Utah State

visits Sunday for a 1 p.m. Big West clash.

Lions honor DeHaas

* VOLLEYBALL: Vanguard University sophomore Keri DeHaas, a key to

the women’s volleyball team’s 10-4 start, the program’s best in

years, was named Lion of the Week on Oct. 6.

A left-handed, multi-talented athlete who has made contributions

all over the court for the Lions, DeHaas has provided consistency and

leadership. She helped the Lions to two wins the week ending Oct. 5,

including a sweep of No. 14-ranked Azusa Pacific.

DeHaas had 20 kills, seven digs and three assists against APU,

which Vanguard had not defeated since 1998.

In an earlier sweep of Cal Baptist, she produced a team-high 11

kills and committed only one error in 26 attacking attempts. She also

picked up four digs, two assists, and a pair of block assists.
