Zack Couey had a hand in three touchdowns and Tim Atencio scored
twice Saturday as the Huntington Beach Dolphins successfully opened
their 2003 season with a 27-13 victory over the host Mona Park
Pathfinders in a Junior All-American Football Pee Wee Division game
in Compton.
Couey and Atencio connected on a 29-yard touchdown pass play
midway through the first quarter for the Dolphins first score.
Atencio scored on a 32-yard run in the second period to put the
Dolphins back on top, 13-7.
Huntington Beach trailed, 14-13, in the second half but Couey
threw a nine-yard scoring pass to Riley Woods on a third-and-nine
play and the extra point gave the Dolphins the lead for good, 20-13.
Couey put the game away on a five-yard option keeper and Jared
Bennett added the conversion in the fourth quarter.
