Edison’s Matt White and Brian Shrock

The pass-catch combination of Brian Shrock and Matt White proved

overpowering to Capistrano Valley High as Edison rolled in nonleague

play last Friday.

Shrock, in only his second varsity start at quarterback, threw for

a career-best 280 yards and three touchdowns during a 27-0 wipeout of

the Cougars in the Chargers’ home opener.

His favorite target on the night was White, who had 13 receptions,

which included two touchdowns and a two-point conversion, totaling

236 yards.

“They both had phenomenal games,” Edison Coach Dave White said.

“Brian had a real good game in our season opener but he was even

better this week. He’s had two really good games out of the shoot.”

Shrock, a sophomore, completed 19 of 30 pass attempts.

White, a senior leader who also starts at cornerback and returns

kicks, came up with another big game.

The 13 receptions by White, son of Dave White, tied the school’s

single-game reception record set by Andy Linnen against Los Alamitos

in 1994.

His 236 receiving yards is second on the school’s all-time

single-game list, behind Denny Flanagan’s 251 he gained against St.

John Bosco in the 2001 season.

“Matt had a great game and he had some nice, individual runs after

some of his receptions,” Dave White said. “He and Brian were really

in sync.”
