INSIDE
CITY HALL
Here are some decisions coming out of Tuesday’s City Council
meeting.
BACK BAY SCIENCE CENTER
The council, in its study session, got an update on plans to build
a water-quality testing laboratory and educational center at
Shellmaker Island. The center, formerly called the Marine Studies
Center at Shellmaker, will be a joint facility for city, county and
state agencies. It will include a laboratory operated by the county,
facilities for workers from the state Department of Fish and Game, a
wetlands restoration area, interpretive stations and other
water-related facilities. The project is now in the architectural
planning process.
WHAT IT MEANS
The presentation was just an update for the council, so no action
was necessary.
RESERVOIR COVER
Also during the study session, the council heard a presentation on
plans to install a plastic cover over the Big Canyon Reservoir. Staff
hope that that the nine-month construction can begin late this year
or early next year.
CONSTRUCTION NOISE
In response to a resident who said that workers are storing
equipment too close to a residential area, city staff will ask the
workers to be more sensitive to neighbors. The roadwork equipment for
workers on Jamboree Road is being stored near a corner of the Bayview
Terrace development. A resident reported that, though city rules
prohibit work from beginning before 7 a.m., workers are retrieving
the equipment as early as 5:45 a.m. and making noise.
WHAT THEY SAID
“This is just a matter of simply courtesy. It’s easy to be
considerate.”
