A winning formula at Estancia

It was a great first football game for Estancia High, the right way

to start a season.

The 24-8 victory over Magnolia a week ago stopped a nine-game skid

and established a bright mark in coach Craig Fertig’s first game.

It’s the kind of performance, complete with 339 yards of total

offense and a stiff defense that shut down the competition through

most of the game, upon which a winning season can be built.

Coupled with Friday night’s 22-20 victory over Century, and we

just may have something special here.

Fertig already has turned around a program that--and this is a

hard truth--needed some change. His college experience, especially as

part of two national championship teams at USC, is proving the right

catalyst.

We know it’s early, but Estancia seems on its way.
