Police make ‘high-risk’ car stop
Costa Mesa police did a “high-risk” car stop on Newport Boulevard
outside the Grant Boys store on Wednesday afternoon hoping to find a
man who had reportedly pointed a gun at another man, officials said.
Officers had their guns drawn as they arrested the man they
suspected had brandished the weapon, Sgt. Zack Hoferitza said.
“He is a former gang member,” he said.
Officers looked in the man’s white Cadillac but did not find a
weapon, Hoferitza said.
He said officers are also trying to locate the victim, who had
called from a cell phone.
“But we lost him because of a bad connection,” he said.
Officers had made the stop based on a vehicle description given by
the victim, Hoferitza said.
