CdM ranked in four sports

With the high school athletics calendar ready to roll, the CIF

Southern Section released its preseason rankings for boys and girls

cross country, boys water polo and girls volleyball Tuesday.

Corona del Mar High pulled off the unique honor of being ranked in

all four sports.

The Sea Kings’ top rankings came in girls cross country and girls

volleyball. They were No. 4 in Division III in cross country and No.

4 in Division III-A in volleyball.

The boys water polo team, playing under first-year coach Mike

Evans, received a No. 7 ranking in Division I. The Sea Kings’ boys

cross country team was ranked No. 7 in Division III.

Newport Harbor was the only other Newport-Mesa school to receive a

ranking in any other sport. The Sailors’ boys water polo team was

ranked fifth in Division I. Harbor’s girls volleyball team received

the top preseason ranking of any Newport-Mesa school in any sport,

slotted at No. 2 behind Mira Costa in Division II-AA.

Football preseason rakings were released last week. Newport Harbor

was ranked 10th in Division VI and Costa Mesa High was ranked fifth

in Division VII.
