GREATEST HITS
Conductor Carl St. Clair leads the Pacific Symphony in
“Tchaikovsky’s Greatest Hits,” an all Tchaikovsky program, at 8 p.m.
Sept. 13. Special guest pianist Vardan Mamikonian will perform the
Piano Concerto No. 1. The evening starts with the Polonaise from
“Eugene Onegin” and the suite from “Swan Lake,” and ends with the
rousing “1812” Overture, with cannons and fireworks. Tickets cost $75

South Coast Repertory will present “The Last Night of Ballyhoo” at
Segerstrom Stage from through Oct. 5. The performance is set in 1939
in Atlanta, when the war on the minds of the locals is the Civil War,
as depicted in “Gone with the Wind.” But for Lala and her family,
nothing could be more important than her debut at Ballyhoo, a dance
