Siblings swim to records

The Smith siblings -- Tori, Joshua and Thomas -- established club and

league record times at the Southern California Swimming Championships

at Corona del Mar High.

The trio swims for the Green Valley Swim Club.

Tori Smith set two individual records and two relay records at the

meet.

She won the 25-yard butterfly in 14.88 seconds to establish a new

record.

Tori, a fifth-grade student who has never lost a butterfly race

the entire season, also set a Green Valley mark in the 100 individual

medley with a 1:15.01.

She and teammates Cheyenne Cox, Kendra Sugitan and Shelby Webber

raced to a new league record time in the 100-yard medley relay with a

1:04.40. The foursome also set a new league record in the 200-free

relay with a 2:07.4.

Joshua Smith, a fourth-grade student, captured five individual

events and set a new league record in the 50-yard freestyle with a

time of 30.96.

He finished first in the 25-yard breaststroke (19.56), the 25-yard

backstroke (17.55), the 25-yard freestyle (13.92) and the 25-yard

butterfly (15.41).

He never lost an individual event in any stroke during the course

of the summer season and set 10 new Green Valley record.

Thomas Smith, a first-grade student, took first place in the

25-yard breaststroke (22.90) and the 25-yard backstroke (20.28) and

was third in the 25-yard freestyle (18.50).

His time in the 25-yard backstroke set a new league record.

He finished the summer season by winning every backstroke event he

entered.

The Smiths attend Grace Lutheran Elementary School.
