Dates for indoor rock climbing camp set

ClimbX Indoor Rock Climbing in Huntington Beach will offer a

summer camp that will cover all the basics for climbing safely in an

indoor environment. Campers will learn knot tying, belaying, climbing

commands and play daily games.

The camp will run from 9 a.m. to noon on Aug. 18, 20 and 22. The

cost is $90 per camper.

ClimbX also offers a camp for children with special needs and is

taught by an adapted physical education specialist.

The camp specializes in teaching problem solving, helps to build

self-esteem, develop social interaction and develop spatial awareness

and body proprioception through climbing.

Volleyball tournament comes to Surf City Aug. 16

The Assn. Of Volleyball Professionals will stage the second “on

the Beach” Pro Beach Volleyball Tournament at the south side of the

Huntington Beach Pier the weekend of Aug. 16 and 17.

The women’s competition will be played Saturday, Aug. 16, and

culminate with the championship final set for 1:30 p.m.

The men’s competition will take place on Sunday, Aug. 17, with the

final also scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m.

Core Tour comes to Huntington on Sept. 5

The Nokia 5100 Core Tour -- a free alternative sports and music

festival -- wraps up its national tour Sept. 5 through 7 near the

Huntington Beach Pier.

The tour features core sports of BMX dirt jumping, skateboarding,

inline skating and mountain board jumping.

BMX standout Brian Foster of Huntington Beach is set to compete,

as is 2000 King of Dirt champion Cory Nastazio of Santa Ana.

In addition, more than 15 alternative bands from throughout Orange

County are scheduled to perform live.

Events will run between 2 and 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 5, and from

9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 6, and Sunday, Sept. 7.
