CenterLine will not be on Oct. 7 ballot
The CenterLine light rail system, which would run from Santa Ana
to John Wayne Airport -- with Costa Mesa in the middle -- will not
join the gubernatorial recall on the Oct. 7 ballot after the Board of
Supervisors voted against giving county residents the chance to weigh
in on the controversial project.
On Tuesday, the Board of Supervisors voted 3 to 2 to reject asking
voters whether they support the $1-billion light rail line. The vote
would have only been an advisory measure, since the board of the
Orange County Transportation Authority has control over Measure M
funds.
Only Supervisors Chris Norby and Bill Campbell supported putting
the issue on the ballot.
The authority voted 9 to 2 in favor of a truncated CenterLine
route in late July after Irvine voters rejected the route through
their city.
Neighborhood Watch available in Costa Mesa
Neighborhood Watch, sponsored by the Costa Mesa Police Department
Crime Prevention Unit, seeks to reduce crime, catch criminals,
recover stolen property, strengthen communication and awareness and
make neighborhoods safer by educating residents and helping them work
together.
A Police Department representative will be sent out to establish a
place and time for a neighborhood meeting and provide fliers. Once at
least 50% of the neighborhood shows support for the program, a
Neighborhood Watch sign will be posted free of charge.
To have a department representative sent out, call Crime
Prevention Specialist Janet Curtis at (714) 754-4876.
