Sports World holds on for close win

A nine-run cushion almost wasn’t enough for Sports World.
Taking a 12-3 lead over Courtesy Auto Body in its latest Wednesday
League outing in the city of Laguna Beach-sponsored Summer Slow Pitch
Softball League, Sports World had to hold on to every last run before
emerging with a 12-11 victory.
The win was the second in as many game for Sports World which
leads the league as its only unbeaten team.
Sports World had taken its 12-3 lead in the fourth inning thanks,
in large part, to a pair of home runs each by Teo Moore and Craig
Brashier.
Courtesy Auto Body came up with a seven-run outburst in the top of
the fifth inning to pull within a run.
Nate Pivaroff led Courtesy Auto Body with a home run and two
singles and Bede Arabe doubled and singled.
In other Wednesday League action:
Mesa Verde Partners 12, Sammy’s Burgers 0
Defending league champion Mesa Verde Partners bounced back from a
2-1 defeat to Courtesy Auto Body to score a one-sided victory.
Leadoff batter Mike McKinley went four for four with two home
runs.
Ranie Martini recorded the shutout on five hits.
Jeff Tankersley doubled and singled to pace Sammy’s Burgers.
