Man killed after car flies off bridge

The driver of a Porsche traveling at speeds of about 100 mph on

the Costa Mesa Freeway on Tuesday night was killed after he lost

control of his car, which ended up smashing through a guard rail

before plunging onto the San Diego Freeway, California Highway Patrol

officials said.

The driver, whose name was not released, was reportedly pursuing

another car that passed him after he entered the freeway from the Del

Mar Avenue onramp just before 10 p.m. Tuesday, CHP officials said.

While speeding, the Porsche driver came upon another vehicle and

the Porsche veered to the right as the Costa Mesa Freeway met the San

Diego Freeway.

At that point, the Porsche struck the guard rail and fell below to

the shoulder of the southbound San Diego Freeway, where he reportedly

struck a 1993 Toyota Corolla driven by Yvonne Suhendra of Anaheim.

She was taken to Mission Hospital, but was released with minor

injuries, officials said.

The Porsche driver was ejected from his vehicle and ended up on

the northbound side of the freeway, where several cars struck him. He

was later pronounced dead.
