Center Gallery will feature a solo exhibition from Sacramento

Golden West College’s

mainstage theater will present “All in the Timing,” a collection

of eight one-act comedies written by David Ives and directed by Tom

Amen. Shows will run Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., Sundays at 3

Adventure Playground is open in Central Park. Adventure Playground

is a naturally wooded area with a man-made shallow pond, a mud slide

and cable slide for kids to explore. Activities are limited only by a

child’s imagination. Kids 6 and older are provided hammers, nails,

saws, lumber, old “junk” and rafts to create forts, clubhouses and

unusual looking hide outs. Bring a towel, a change of clothes and

shoes for the children, as well as a bag to carry dirty supplies

home. There are changing rooms and a shower for rinsing. Tie-on shoes

are mandatory -- sandals and water shoes are not allowed in the

playground. The playground is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through

Friday at Central Park near Gothard Street, 7111 Talbert Ave. General

Pete’s authentic “Dance for

the Waves” Luau includes a lei and shell greeting, Polynesian

Serena Brooke Day Surf

Camp and Amateur Competition will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

when world-class surfer Serena Brooke will lend her talents to a day

of fun for females of all ages on the north side of Huntington Beach

surfing lessons or entry in an amateur surf competition plus

The Huntington Beach

Playhouse will present “Quilters” at the Central Library Theater.

By Molly Newman and Barbara Damashek, with lyrics by Sheldon Harnick,

it is a joyous and moving celebration of American womanhood that pays

eloquent tribute to the courage and spirit of one of our nation’s

pioneer women and her six daughters. “Quilters” blends a series of

interrelated scenes capturing the terror, joy, harsh challenges and

abiding rewards of frontier life. Illuminating stories are contained

in the patches, or quilt blocks, with music, dance and drama. In the

end the various patches are assembled into a brilliantly colorful

The third annual Philips

Fusion a $225,000 sport, technology and music festival will

feature the world’s largest professional surfing competition, the

Honda Element U.S. Open of Surfing presented by O’Neill. It will run

through Aug. 3. The festival attracts more than 600 world-class

athletes from across the globe and features surfing, skateboarding

and BMX in innovative venues along with live concerts and an

Surfing Walk of Fame 10th

anniversary Gala will be held at the Hyatt Regency Huntington

A Sand Castle Class will be held from noon to 3 p.m. on the south

side of Huntington Beach Pier that will cover sandcastle building

techniques. Using plywood and plastic forms, the class will include

form construction, sand/water mixing, carving techniques, design

tips, beach safety and a review of the Sand Castle Festival contest

rules to prepare prospective teams to enter the Huntington Beach Sand

Castle Festival Contest on Oct. 4. All tools and equipment to create

sand castles and sculptures at the class (shovels, buckets, trowels,

carving tools, straws, spray bottles and rakes) will be provided.

Classes will be taught by professional sand castle sculptor Kent

Trollen of Sand Castles Unlimited, who builds sand castles all over

the world, and was recently featured on the Arts & Entertainment
