All-Stars win tourney titles

The Fountain Valley Pinto All-Star team, consisting of several
players from Huntington Beach, rolled to the championship of the St.
Hedwig All-Star Tournament in Los Alamitos.
The All-Star team routed Whittier in the title game, 15-1.
Jacob Vega’s early home run got his team in gear and Sean Finley
later hit a three-run homer.
The pitching of Clayton Smith, Brad Owen and Vega combined to
limit Whittier to one run.
The All-Star team opened the tournament with another 15-1 win
against a second team from Whittier. In game No. 2, Wyatt Christensen
hit a two-run home run to highlight an 8-3 victory over host St.
Hedwig.
In semifinal round action, Brad Owen homered in a 14-0 wipeout of
Tustin.
The local All-Star team also consists of player Josh Armstrong,
Joey DeMarco, Jacob Fuller, Derek Huynen, Michael Kelly, Nestor
Linares, Jonathan Marriott, Jacob Marvos, Josh Mishler and Scotty
Weaver and coaches Jim Owen, Don Smith and Rick Christensen.
Huntington Beach athletes also played on Fountain Valley All-Star
teams that won the 12-year-old Bronco Division tournament title and
the 14-year-old Pony Division tournament.
Nine members from the 14-year-old Pony team will be incoming
freshmen this fall at Edison High.
