Adams, Massingill power River Dogs to victory

Brett Adams hit his first home run of the year and Jackson Massingill
tripled twice for the Newport Harbor River Dogs in their 9-5 victory
over the Corona del Mar Angels in Pony baseball action.
Newport scored six times in the fourth inning to stake the big
lead.
Adams’ shot was a two-run blast over the right-center-field fence.
Massingill has four triples in his last two games and has eight RBIs
in that span, including five against the Angels.
Peter Hapke went 3 for 3 with two singles and a double while Dan
Winkle added an RBI and a triple. Adams finished with two RBIs as
Glen Christiansen, Kory Kough and Michael Thagard each had one hit.
Massingill and Hapke each threw three innings, with Hapke tallying
the win in relief. They combined for four strikeouts and allowed only
two runs between them.
Winkle pitched one inning to record the save.
The win made the River Dogs 2-0-1 in a three-game span.

The game featured 25 hits and 16 walks in only six innings.
Massingill went 2 for 4 with three RBIs wile Thagard and Hapke
each knocked in two runs. Both Hapke and Thagard went 3 for 4 with
two singles and a double. Hapke scored twice along with Kough, who
walked three times.
Matt Briant walked twice in three at-bats and scored one run while
Tim High was hit by a pitch and scored once. Winkle, Adams and
Christiansen each singled.
Spencer Smith, Thagard and Winkell combined on the mound.

Nathan Todd struck out the last two batters with the bases loaded
to end a Snapper rally in the bottom of the seventh inning to
preserve the victory.
Thagard pitched two scoreless innings as Massingill tagged out two
runners trying to score.
Drew Harris pitched six innings for the Snappers, allowing only
three runs. Vincent Newsom went 2 for 3 with a run scored.
Smith tallied three strikeouts in three innings for the River Dogs
while Thagard added two innings. Smith went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and
Hapke also got two hits in three at-bats.
High went 2 for 2 while Adams knocked a hit.
AYSO Region 97 sign-ups
Newport-Mesa AYSO Region 97 is holding fall soccer registration at
Mariners Elementary School on Saturday, June 7, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m
in the multi-purpose room.
Boys and girls ages born prior to Feb. 1, 1999 through age 18 are
eligible and early registration is $85 for the first player in a
family, $75 for the second player in the family and $65 for
additional players in the same family. After June 15, the regular
registration fee is $125 per player.
Anyone new to the region or who has not previously signed up, must
bring a birth certificate. Players born before July 31, 1994, will
need to have their skills evaluated at registration.
