Seventy students from Orange Coast College made the Athletic Honor
Roll for fall 2002. In order to qualify, students had to maintain at
least a 3.0 grade-point average and had to complete a minimum of 12
academic units during their seasons. Costa Mesa residents Jane Alder,
(women’s golf); Joanne Durocher, (women’s golf); and Newport Beach
residents Marilyn Pope,( women’s golf); Natalie St. Andre, (women’s
cross-country); all had 4.0 GPAs. Maria Alvares-Felix, (women’s cross
country); Jason Drexel, (football); Nancy Hatsushi,(women’s
basketball); Heather Metcalf, (women’s soccer); Tyler Schack,
(football); all of Costa Mesa earned 3.5 to 3.9 GPAs. Derek
Aspinwall, (football); Samuel Bailey, (men’s basketball); Robert
Dulle, (men’s soccer); Donnie Garcia, (football); Beau Gertz,
(football); Casey Peterson, (women’s volleyball); Gilbert Salas,
(men’s cross country); Bryce Sheridan, (football); Jermaine Snell,
(Football); all of Costa Mesa, and Ryan Winthrop, (men’s water polo);
of Newport beach, all received 3.0 to 3.4 GPAs for the fall 2002
semester ... Annual and lifetime achievement awards were given out at
the fourth annual Orange County Arts Awards, recognizing outstanding
work for the year 2002. Nine annual achievement awards and three
lifetime achievement awards were presented. One lifetime achievement
award recognized Thomas and Marilyn Nielsen of Newport Beach as
philanthropists and community leaders with the Community Visionary
award. Raymond Kobler of Costa Mesa was recognized with an
Outstanding Individual Artist award. The South Coast Repertory was
recognized as an Outstanding Arts Organization award, and an
Outstanding Volunteer Award went to Darrel Anderson of Newport Beach.
Each honoree received a sculpture award created by local artist
Michael Graham ... Mike Reicher of Newport Beach has joined Bernholz
& Graham, Inc. as an account coordinator, and will be responsible for
the general coordination of all agency accounts. Reicher earned a
bachelor’s degree with honors in communications from UCLA.
