Trendy styles with affordable price tags

Development at Palliser Furniture believes that furniture styles have
global appeal and that young people -- Gen X’s and Y’s in particular
-- are keenly aware of what hip furniture design is. Especially since
those designs are often oriented toward ‘pop-fashion advertising’.
“Such furniture is usually available only at the high-end and is
just not affordable to them. It’s like seeing a Porsche while
shopping for a car. They say ‘It’s beautiful, but I can’t afford
it,’” Tielmann said. “The difference between the automotive industry
and furniture, is that the person who likes the Porsche but can’t
afford the price tag, can opt for, say, a Mazda Spider. They don’t
have to buy a Buick -- they can still find something funky and
fashionable that they can afford. This is not necessarily true in the
furniture business.”
That’s where EQ3 comes in.
EQ3 steps forward into design that’s not a part of conventional
furniture retail.
“Over the years, we’ve always viewed ourselves as a sort of bridge
between North America and Europe,” said Art DeFehr, president of
Palliser. “So, our products have always had a stronger, contemporary
flavor. But EQ3 takes a whole step forward into a style range the
traditional retailer doesn’t even touch. It’s a little more fun, and
a little more functional.”
Early in EQ3’s development, Palliser decided that these
distinctive products needed to be produced under the larger umbrella
of a separate operating division and offered in either an in-store
EQ3 gallery or a freestanding EQ3 store.
