Hann near perfect in 5-0 Ocean View win

Phillip Hann was near perfection on the mound for Ocean View High in

its Golden West League baseball encounter with Saddleback.

The senior, a returning all-league pitcher, showed his prowess in

throwing a no-hitter at the visiting Roadrunners in leading Ocean

View to a 5-0 victory.

Hann struck out 12, walked one, hit a batter and faced just one

hitter over the minimum as the Seahawks ran their league-leading

record to 5-0.

Hann backed his own cause on offense with two doubles and an RBI

in two trips to the plate.

Ocean View improved to 10-1 overall.

In other baseball action, David Huff hit a two-run home run and

notched another pitching victory as Edison downed visiting Esperanza,

5-1, in Sunset League play.

Huff, now 5-1, had nine strikeouts and didn’t walk a batter and

Nate Mitani had a two-RBI double as league-leading Edison ran its

record to 6-1.

The Chargers were 11-3 overall heading into spring break.

Marina remained in the thick of the league race following an 8-1

thumping of Fountain Valley.

Wes Etheridge recorded his fourth pitching win of the season and

Brian Ward had two hits and two RBI as the host Vikings went to 5-2

in league and 10-4 overall.

Los Alamitos scored seven, first inning runs and used that quick

start to score an 11-2 win over visiting Huntington Beach (2-5 in

league).

In softball, Marina freshman Krystl Heinle three-hit Huntington

Beach and the visiting Vikings recorded a 3-0 victory to go to 2-0 in

Sunset League play.

Nicole LaPier’s first inning RBI single was the difference in

Fountain Valley’s 1-0 win over visiting Edison. The loss was the

first in Sunset play for the Chargers (10-6, 1-1).

In boys’ volleyball, Huntington Beach swept Edison, 15-8, 15-11,

15-9, to improve to 3-1 in Sunset League play.

Kenny Markwardt led the way with 25 kills as the Oilers won for

the 10th time overall in 11 matches this season.

Ocean View ran its Golden West League mark to 6-1 and overall

record to 12-5 with a 15-6, 15-16, 15-13, 15-6 win at Costa Mesa.
