Estancia shut out in first round
Pacifica High senior pitcher Drew Mulkern had a perfect game going
through 5 2/3 innings and he finished with a two-hitter to lift the
Mariners past Estancia in a Pride of the Coast Tournament first-round
game at Pacifica Saturday.
Mulkern struck out five with no walks, while Estancia had two
baserunners in the game and none advanced to second base. Pacifica
(12-0) scored four runs in the first two innings, playing as the
“visiting” team, and never looked back.
With two out in the fifth inning, Estancia junior Matt Ronquillo
reached on a bunt, but Mulkern got the next batter out. In the bottom
of the seventh inning, Estancia junior Cullen Crom singled for the
Eagles’ final hit.
Tyler Hoffman, the Eagles’ junior pitcher, turned in a complete
game that came with five strikeouts. He scattered seven hits and
allowed three earned runs.
Estancia (3-11) will return to action in the Pride of the Coast
Tournament Monday at 2 p.m. at Estancia, where the Eagles will take
on the Los Amigos-Covina loser. Estancia has lost twice in as many
meetings with Los Amigos this season.
