Loper tosses two-hit shutout for Sage Hill

Sage Hill School sophomore right-hander Matt Loper spun a two-hit
shutout Friday as the visiting Lightning defeated Whitney, 4-0, in an
Academy League baseball game.
Loper struck out three and walked one in his 90-pitch gem. There
were no extra-base hits in the game, only six singles by Sage Hill
(5-4-1, 4-3 in league) and two by the Wildcats (1-11, 0-7).
Sophomore George Dempsey paced Sage Hill offensively, going 2 for
3 with an RBI, while junior catcher Matt Kornswiet went 2 for 3 with
a stolen base and one run scored.
The Lightning will host Brethren Christian on Monday in a league
game, then host an eight-team tournament Wednesday through Saturday.

Mustangs lose lead, game against Saints
The Costa Mesa High baseball team lost a 4-1 lead after two innings and suffered a 7-5 Golden West League loss to visiting Santa
Ana Friday.
The Mustangs dropped to 6-7, 2-3 in league. Santa Ana rallied with
a four-run fourth inning, and Costa Mesa answered with one run in the
bottom of the fifth to tie the score, 5-5. But the Saints came up
with two runs in the sixth inning and held on for the win.
