Nelson’s run ends in semis

Orange Coast College sophomore Ashley Nelson lost in a semifinal
singles match of the Orange Empire Conference women’s individual
tennis tournament at Irvine Valley Friday.
Nelson lost, 3-6, 3-6, to Fullerton’s Kelly Savin, who went on to
win the OEC singles championship. Savin upset the favorite Alicia
Brown from Riverside to win the singles title.
In the OEC doubles final, Nelson teamed up with freshman Leah
Becker and they lost in a thrilling match to Saddleback’s Annette
Beebe and Jessica Allbrook. The Saddleback duo won, 7-6, 6-4.
“It was a tough day for us,” OCC Coach Janice Maran said. “But we
did as well as we should have. I’m really pleased.”
The Pirates will have the week off and will then prepare for the
Ojai tournament which starts April 24.

Sage Hill loses, 13-5
* HIGH SCHOOL: The Sage Hill School boys tennis team lost in an
Academy League match of heavyweights, in which host Whitney won,
13-5, Friday.
Whitney is ranked No. 2 in CIF Southern Section Division V, while
the Lightning is ranked No. 5. Whitney improved to 12-2, 6-0 in
league, while Sage Hill dropped to 5-7, 4-3.
Anthony Milovantsev and Greg Solodko teamed up to record two
doubles wins for the Lightning.
“The Academy League is the toughest league in Division V,” Sage
Hill Coach A.G. Longoria said. “Fairmont Prep is another ranked team
at [No. 3]. So we don’t feel too bad about this loss.”

Glatch advances in first round of Easter Bowl
* JUNIOR TENNIS: Alexa Glatch of Newport Beach, the top seed in
the girls 14s singles in the prestigious Easter Bowl Junior Tennis
Tournament at Riviera Resort and Racquet Club in Palm Springs,
defeated Marisa Lambropoulos of Lake Forest in the first round
Friday, 6-0, 6-2, and will face Erin Wiesener of Calabasas in the
today’s Round of 64.
In the girls 18s, Stanford-bound Anne Yelsey of Corona del Mar is
seeded ninth and will open play today, while CdM’s Brittany Holland
is also scheduled for a first-round match today.
