American Legion blanks Laguna Surf & Sport

Travis Woloson and Tyle MacRae combined to throw six innings of

shutout baseball to lead American Legion to a 7-0 blanking of Laguna

Surf and Sport in Laguna Beach Little League Majors Division action.

Woloson allowed just one hit and struck out seven in three innings

at Riddle Field.

He and MacRae were backed by a solid defense that included

shortstop Kyle Snyder turning double plays.

Snyder, Woloson, MacRae, Alex Burk and Spike Jackson contributed

key hits and Noah Barker reached base on three walks.

Cain Fair had two hits and Will Marquette and Jamie Melcor each

singled for Laguna Surf and Sport.

In other Majors action:

VFW 7, Angels 2

Cooper Gwaltney had an RBI single and Alex Shusko hit an RBI

double as VFW scored two runs in each of the first two innings en

route to victory over San Juan Capistrano.

Gwaltney later added an RBI and Shusko stole home, both highlights

taking place in the fifth inning. Shusko later scored in the sixth on

the back end of a double steal involving Gabe Stansbury.

Stansbury also doubled in the contest and other VFW hits went to

Mikey Rubel, Logan Schoembs and Drake Dixon.

Stansbury started on the mound. He allowed two hits and one run

and struck out six in recording his third win of the season.

Shusko worked in relief and yielded two hits and one run while

striking out four.

Hobie Sports 7, Dodgers 6

Alex Germano took a 2-2 fastball deep over the right-centerfield

fence to cap Hobie’s rally from a 6-0 deficit as they stunned San

Juan Capistrano in a seven-inning affair.

It was Germano’s second homer of the game -- and third of the

season -- and it gave Hobie its fifth league win and seventh overall

this season.

The Dodgers had taken a 6-0 lead before Hobie bats came alive in

the fourth inning. Dillon Pierce reached base on an error and was

scored when Germano delivered his first home run, this one sent over

a tree in centerfield.

With Pierce throwing in relief, Hobie began to battle back.

In the bottom of the sixth, Eli Viszolay doubled home Germano, who

had singled and Matt Moisen sent a hit off the left-centerfield fence

to score Viszolay and Keaton Jones who also had singled.

Mosien scored on a throwing error to tie the score at 6-6.

Pierce struck out eight in his relief effort.
