Anteaters ride Waves, 5-1

Center fielder Jon Horwitz wielded the biggest bat in a 10-hit attack
for the UC Irvine Anteaters Tuesday night, going 4 for 4 with a
double, two runs scored and two RBIs as the ‘Eaters handed visiting
Pepperdine a 5-1 nonconference defeat.
The Anteaters, who never trailed, snapped a 1-1 tie in the fourth
inning with a pair of runs, then took command with two more in the
bottom of the seventh to pad the margin to four.
Kris Krise, who went five innings, allowing one earned run on four
hits, striking out four, got his third victory in four decisions.
Second baseman Matt Fisher was 2 for four with an RBI and a run
scored.
Brett Dalton and Mark Wagner each doubled for the Anteaters, who
improved to 14-20, while handing Pepperdine its 15th loss in 34
starts.
The Anteaters return to their home confines on Friday when they
host heralded Long Beach State in the first of a three-game Big West
Conference series, starting at 7 Friday. Saturday’s game is at 6 p.m.
and the finale on Sunday is at 1 p.m.
