Hornets defeat Pirates
SOFTBALL: Fullerton College leadoff hitter Celina Rubalcalba hit a
home run to open the game Monday and spark the visiting Hornets to a
10-1 Orange Empire Conference softball victory over Orange Coast.
The Pirates (9-13, 4-9 in the OEC) tied it with a run in the
bottom of the first inning, when Emilee Bodiford reached on an error
with two outs and scored on a wild pitch.
Fullerton (27-9, 9-3), however, sent 10 batters to the plate in
the second, scoring four runs, then added two more runs in the third.
OCC reliever Tarah Sockerson retired the Hornets in order in the
fourth, but Fullerton scored three more runs in the fifth and held
down the Bucs as it invoked the five-inning, eight-run mercy rule.
