Students get vivid lesson into makings of symphony
Fifth-graders throughout Orange County got their final chance to
experience classical music live at the Orange County Performing Arts
Center Monday, as part of the Philharmonic Society Youth Education
Programs’ 46th annual Concerts for Fifth-Graders. The concert
included performances by the Orange County Youth Symphony Orchestra.
Throughout the concert, student were educated about the nuances of an
orchestra and its numerous instruments.
More than 1,000 people surrounded Newport Harbor High School’s
flagpole Tuesday to pay tribute to Jose Garibay, a Costa Mesa Marine
who was killed in Iraq last month. Students, faculty, family and
friends gathered to share their thoughts about the alumnus.
Vanguard University has taken the first step to build promising
partnerships with Costa Mesa and Estancia high school by offering two
students from each school $20,000 scholarships. Both Vanguard and the
Newport-Mesa Unified School District and hope to eventually extend
the scholarship to include the district’s other high schools.
