Newport girls sparkle

Newport Harbor High’s girls, behind a bevy of multiple winners, dealt
host Irvine an 83-50 Sea View League defeat in track and field.
Jillianne Whitfield (weights) and Courtney Marshall (distances)
swept, but the eye-openers were provided by freshman Heather Bisch
and Stephanie Lambrakis, and junior Heidi Peschelt, all with
first-time varsity victories.
Peschelt doubled in the hurdles, going 19.6 and 55.2, Bisch
doubled in the triple jump (29-8) and high jump (4-4) and Lambrakis
won the 100 in 13.6.
The decision lifted the Sailors to 4-1, 1-1 in league.
On the boys side, an 80-55 loss to the hosts, Matt Tracy competed
well, winning the 400 in 52.5, and came back 20 minutes later to
finish second in the 800 in 2:11.0.
Alec Urtusuastegui won the 800 meters in 2:10.1 and was third in
the 1,600 (4:49.5). He anchored the winning 1,600 relay team with
53.0 leg.
Nick Miller doubled in the distances, going 4:39.7 and 10:31.1 I
the 1,600 and 3,200. Jack Skahen took the shot with a 46-1 1/2 toss.
