Dodgers shut out Giants

Cody Green and Nick Pederson combined for a shutout as the Dodgers

defeated the Giants, 2-0, Tuesday to move alone in first place in the

Costa Mesa National Little League’s Majors division.

Josh Ryding drove in the runs and Alex Grosek, Coleman Brown and

Bryan Maurer played tough defense for the Dodgers (5-1). The Giants

fell to 4-2.

In other Majors play:

* Dodgers 11, Padres 7

Ryding and Pederson teamed up on the mound to limit the Padres

Saturday.

Green and Nick Oliver led the offense with two hits each and

Grosek collected three RBIs.

Shortstop Frank DeNoewer and outfielders Grosek and Eric Mickelson

made catches on fly balls.

In Costa Mesa American Little League Minor A action:

* Mariners 7, Angels 2

Tyler Shefner, Tommy Stephens and P.J. Maloney combined on a

four-hitter and gave up only one walk between them for the Mariners.

Matt Mello and Kyle Peterson each got two hits with Maloney,

Shefner and Nathan Olson also reached base with hits. Mello, Maloney,

Martin Maszynski, Peterson, Stephens and Austin Knott scored the

Mariners’ runs with Matthew Langmos driving in one run.

J.T. McLucky had a solid defensive game for the Mariners at

catcher and first base.

In Farm Division play:

* The Mets rallied in the second inning against the Giants.

Cassie Stevenson was awarded the Mets MVP for playing solid

defense and offense while Brandon Dieckhoff tallied six RBIs.

Bradley Wilson and Chad Fackler each hit home runs with Ryan West

and Jake Stone both knocking triples. Eric Pfautz and William Reed

got a hit in each at-bat and Matthew Thomas made a backhanded catch

at third for an unassisted double play.

Ray Barkis and Harrison Stern also displayed solid offense and

defense.

In Costa Mesa Pony play:

* Angels 14, Newport Beach River Dogs 4

Matt Pisarski sparkled on both sides of the plate, pitching all

five innings, striking out eight and walking one. He belted a home

run and two doubles.

Tim Morley had two doubles and a single while Bryan Bennett

singled and doubled for Mesa. Scott Surdyka singled twice while

Michael Cedeno, Chad Peterson all Andrew Whitaker each had one hit.
