Autos make dreams come true

A hot and blustery day did little to deter motor enthusiasts who

turned out to see the inaugural custom car show staged by nuVision

Financial Federal Credit Union of Huntington Beach.

About 165 custom muscle cars, street rods and hot rods were on

display in two parking lot areas of nuVision Financial, one of Orange

County’s largest credit unions.

One-hundred percent of the entry fees from those displaying cars

in the show benefited the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Orange County,

which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.

More than 70 custom hot rods were pre-registered for the event and

nearly 40% of those were from Huntington Beach, said Kerry Lewis of

nuVision Financial Federal Credit Union.

Car clubs from as far away as the San Francisco Bay area made the

trip south for the event. The show was heavily promoted at custom car

shops in Huntington Beach, Lewis said.

Celebrity cars on hand included the coach used in the hit 1960s TV

show, “The Munsters,” as well as a 1932 red Chevrolet roadster that

was featured on the 55th anniversary cover of Hot Rod magazine in

January.

Entry fees -- at $29 per car -- netted $3,500 for the Make-a-Wish

Foundation.

The overall money raised from various activities held at the show

totaled nearly $10,000 for the charity.

“We are really thrilled with the support we received from the

Huntington Beach community for nuVision Financial’s inaugural event,”

said Michelle Wells of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. “nuVision’s goal

is to grant one of our children’s wishes with the funds they generate

over the next few months.”

In addition to the money raised last weekend, for every new loan

nuVision writes over the next several weeks, a portion of that income

will go toward the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Lewis said.

“We will give $5 to Make-A-Wish for every new auto loan we write

in the next few weeks,” Lewis said. “Our goal with this event was to

promote car loans while contributing to a very worthwhile foundation

as Make-A-Wish celebrates 20 years.”
