Barton rips three homers, Vikings split

Daric Barton ripped three home runs and Justin Sellers added one of

his own as Marina High split a home nonleague baseball doubleheader

with Moorpark this weekend.

The Vikings downed the Musketeers, 9-5, in the first game, then

dropped a 4-2 decision in the second.

In the 9-5 triumph, Barton, an all-CIF player last year, delivered

solo shots in the third and fifth innings, then capped his amazing

hitting performance and the game’s scoring with a three-run homer in

the sixth.

Sellers hit a solo home run during Marina’s two-run, first inning.

In Sunset League baseball action, Huntington Beach picked up its

first league victory by routing visiting Esperanza, 9-3.

The Oilers (1-2 as of Tuesday) actually trailed the Aztecs, 3-0,

before exploding for nine runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Junior Colin Balester went the distance and improved his record to

3-2.

In softball, Edison’s defense was not scored upon and Stacy Birk

notched two pitching victories as the Chargers swept a nonleague

doubleheader at Troy.

Birk ran her record to 7-3 by giving up two hits against Troy

during a 1-0 win in the first game, then came back to one-hit the

Warriors in 2-0 win in game two.

Ocean View suffered a pair of losses at the Garden Grove

Tournament, falling to host Garden Grove, 8-1, and Rancho Alamitos,

8-2.
