True to their school

There are 28 very happy young ladies and one very pleased coach at

St. John the Baptist School this month. It’s not every day that a

school’s cheerleading squad wins a national championship.

Heck, for St. Johns, once labeled “really good for a junior high

school,” it is a very rare occurrence. But under the tutelage of

coach Eddie Strachan, the squad did it.

The national-winning squad -- the first in the school’s history --

deserves high praise. In fact, the Costa Mesa City Council should

award a proclamation to the girls and coach.

Really, they deserve recognition on every level possible. So the

county, state and federal governments should also all issue

proclamations recognizing their achievement.

The squad should serve as an inspiration to all that anyone, with

some hard work and great coaching, can improve -- and succeed in

spades.

And that’s worth a lot of rahs.
