Marine View Middle School’s eighth-grade girls’ and seventh-grade
boys’ volley ball teams, and the Mesa View seventh-grade girls’ team,
each capped undefeated seasons by winning both the Ocean View School
District postseason tournament.
The tournament’s biggest upset came at the eighth-grade boys’
level where Vista View, which won just one of six regular season
matches, rose to the occasion to knock off regular season winner
Marine View.
The boys’ tournaments were played at Mesa View; Vista View hosted
the girls’ competition.
Eighth-Grade Girls
Marine View’s eighth-grade girls, coached by Peggy Fuzzard,
rallied in the second game after falling behind, 13-4, to score an
eventual 15-5, 16-14 win over Mesa View, which finished second during
the regular season. The victory capped an 8-0 season for the Vikings.
Eighth-Grade Boys
Vista View (3-5 overall) came out of nowhere to bump off
second-seeded Mesa View in a three game, first round match, then
downed a 7-0 Marine View squad, 15-7, 15-6, in the final.
Seventh-Grade Girls
Mesa View rode its regular season title to a tournament title by
beating second-place Marine View in a well-played division final,
17-19, 15-10, 16-14. The Eagles finished the season 7-1 overall.
Seventh-Grade Boys
Marine View finished the season 8-0 after scoring a comeback 6-15,
15-7, 15-3 victory over Spring View.
