Goal de Locks, a Region 117 girls’ under-12 Division team, won one of
three matches in the AYSO Section 11 tournament weekend action.
Following a close, 1-0 loss to Region 24, Goal de Locks bounced
back to defeat Region 127, 2-1. They then were handed another tough,
1-0 loss, this time, by an unbeaten Region 630 squad.
In defeating Region 127, Goal de Locks battled back from a 1-0
halftime deficit by posting two, second half goals.
The first came when Kristy Verone, who normally plays sweeper,
dribbled through several defenders to score to make it a 1-1 game.
In the fourth period, Stephanie Layton scored the winning goal
with a shot from just outside the penalty area.
Goal de Locks, coached by Dale Hensley and Richard Bandurian,
completed postseason play with a 10-3-2 record. The team, one of two
Area 11-K Under-12 Division teams in the Section tournament, is also
comprised of defenders George Demes, Vicky Hill, Teresa Bandurian and
Shannon Bolotin, mid-fielders Jessica Parker, Brianna Webster,
Arielle Freleaux and Alison Hensley, and forwards Haley Townsend,

Quicksilver earns third-place finish
Quicksilver, a Silver All-Star team out of Region 117, completed a successful postseason run with three victories.
Jonny McFall scored twice, Kyle Hisa scored once and Matt Feltman,
Trevor Verone and David Pinault each picked up assists as Quicksilver
began the weekend with a 3-0 victory over Region 1335.
They got off to a quick start in their following match against
Region 5, with Nick Frens coming up with a steal to set up a
cross-field pass to Verone who set up a McFall goal for a 1-0 lead.
A strong second half saw McFall score off a Wade Sias assist and
Verone scoring on a breakaway for an eventual, 3-2 Quicksilver win.
Quicksilver, coached by David Sias and Ken Frens, then wrapped a
third place finish in the tournament by blanking Region 56, 4-0.
The defensive play of Luke Bosilijevac, Brandon Dang and Kyle
Garibay kept Region 56 off the scoreboard as the two teams struggled
to a scoreless first half.
But it was all Quicksilver in the second half as McFall posted
four goals, two of the scoring being set up by Sias and Feltman.
Tyler Folkins had an outstanding three-game performance swing in
net, allowing just one goal.
