Cotton is an 8-year-old spayed Lilac Toti Point Himalayan.

Bottle-fed and hand-raised in her early years, the personal attention

disappeared when her owner became too busy, said DiAnna Pfaff-Martin,

founder of the Newport Beach-based Community Animal Network.

Pfaff-Martin said that Cotton’s owner had worked many hours a day,

often late into the evening, leaving Cotton home alone.

Eventually, she refused to use her litter box, infuriating her

owner, who took Cotton to a veterinarian to be put to sleep.

However, Cotton was saved and is temporarily with a foster family

full of children and other cats to play with her.

But Cotton needs a permanent home. One with an owner that has

plenty of love and extra time to give. Many animals express their

unhappiness with unpleasant behavior, such as urinating inside the

house, she said. It is not unusual for owners to react with anger

toward their pet.

“When we find the right home for an animal, those nasty behaviors

may just go away,” Pfaff-Martin said.
