Big West Honors Pajer

Brian Pajer, the first-year coach of the UC Irvine swimming and
diving programs, was voted as the women’s swimming and diving Big
West Conference Co-Coach of the Year.
Pajer led the Anteater women to a third-place finish at the Big
West Championships. He shared the honor with Danny May, the
first-year coach at University of the Pacific. Pajer was a Big West
champion for UC Irvine in the 100 and 200 breaststroke all four years
of his collegiate career in the late 1980s, and qualified for both
events at the NCAA Division I championships each of his years. He was
named to the NCAA All-American team in 1989 and 1990.
UCI golfers sparkle
The UC Irvine women’s golf team is in seventh place after 36 holes
at the Spartan Invitational at the Corral de Tierra Country Club in
Salinas.
Pepperdine leads the 14-team tournament with a 567 (275-292)
followed by UCLA at 585 (283-302). The Anteaters are seventh after
shooting a 607 (303-304) on the first day of the tournament.
Freshman Angela Won shot a pair of one-under 71s Tuesday for third
place (142) heading into the final round. Pepperdine’s Katherine Hull
shot a nine-under 63 on the first 18 then a 71 on the second to lead
the field with a 134. Hull’s teammate Lindsay Wright is second with a
137 (65-72).
UCI’s Stella Lee is seventh with a 146 (73-73). Channing Lovejoy
is 51st with a 158 (78-80), while Shelly Raworth is 59th after
carding a 161 (81-80). Freshman Reana Yun is 68th with a two-round
total of 170 (89-81).
The tournament concludes with 18 holes today.
