Vanguard splits

* BASEBALL: Vanguard University split a baseball doubleheader at

The Master’s College in Santa Clarita Saturday, taking the opener,

5-2, behind Joe Carnahan (3 for 4 with a double), then dropping a 7-3

decision as The Master’s struck for four runs in the sixth inning.

Kelso Lopez got the win in Game 1, spacing out eight hits over

seven innings. Matt Caston got the save with two scoreless innings.

Vanguard is now 9-5, The Master’s is 7-4-1.

* INDOOR TRACK: UC Irvine sophomore Erin Curtis was fourth in

the pole vault at 12-8 at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation

Indoor Championships in Boise, Idaho.

Lauren Adams, Jessica Stafford, Curtis and Suzanne Purmont went

3:51.80 in the 4 x 400 relay, and Amanda Armstrong, Erin Hill, Cathy

Picha and Wendy Chan clocked a 12:04.08 in the distance medley relay.

* JC TENNIS: Orange Coast College has three players in the finals

of the Southwestern Tournament today in Chula Vista. Freshman

Michelle Wenski competein singles at 11 a.m. and the doubles team of

Ashley Nelson and Rachel Sessum vie at 9 a.m.

* WATER POLO: UC Irvine’s women’s water polo team upset Michigan,

8-5, Saturday.

Also, on a very busy day for the Anteaters, UCI lost to Arizona

State, 7-5, defeated Cal State Northridge, 5-2, and lost to San Jose

State, 7-5.
