Newport police arrest drug suspect

Newport Beach police arrested a 46-year-old Newport Beach man

Thursday night on suspicion of possessing about three pounds of

marijuana for sale, officials said.

A police officer followed Carl Howard May near Seashore Drive and

48th Street at about 7:30 p.m. after the officer “smelled marijuana

coming from the car,” said Sgt. Steve Shulman.

“When the officer asked [May] if he had marijuana in the car, he

said he had just the one cigarette,” he said.

But when the officer checked the car, he found three pounds of

marijuana and some ammunition, Shulman said.

May posted a $10,000 bail, he said.
