One meeting is plenty for commission
I think it is a great thing to cut down on those Planning
Commission meetings, which are much to do about nothing. One meeting
can really solve all those problems. One girl there was baffled and
bewildered by her questions and the men were just kind of bored so I
think one meeting would be sufficient and that’s my opinion.

Move the fireworks back to the beach
Fourth of July fireworks should absolutely be moved back to the
pier. As a doctor of the fine arts, the natural and aesthetic
backdrop of the sky is hardly something that can be ignored, a
natural phenomena and what a place to have shooting stars. Yes, move
it back to the pier.

I would like to see the fireworks back at the pier.

Paintball event was in very poor taste
The weekend before last we experienced a contamination of our
beach. That paintball exhibition was about as bad as anyone could
imagine. And we brought it about ourselves. Our beautiful ocean is
sometimes victim of various pollutants but those occur by accident,
not by choice.
I would sincerely hope that in the future those responsible for
such poor selection of entertainment would use better judgment. There
are many activities to be enjoyed in our city and many of these take
place on the sand or in the surf. The volleyball, surfing and
skateboarding exhibitions show true ability and talent. They are a;;
positive and true sports actions, not some childish cops and robbers
make believe.
I have found that I am definitely not alone in my disapproval of
this improper use of our great location. Please, in future, avoid
such poor taste.

Other ways to trim besides cutting jobs
I thought by eliminating the teacher planning days (I think there
are three to five per year) that would be that much money saved if
they didn’t have to go to it.
I thought by eliminating the minimum days, which are I think, one
maybe two hours per week on Thursdays, that might help as that would
be at least one hour less pay for teachers. And then on the teacher
training days, instead of having those be mandatory, they could
possibly volunteer. That way if teachers did not choose to go to it,
they wouldn’t have to be paid and they could save that much more
money. Hope that helps.

Use of law students in bad judgment
Why did the electorate give our present city attorney such an
overwhelming number of votes in the last election? I thought the
voters of Huntington Beach were tired of the city attorney not being
capable of defending our city in even the most trivial law suits. Now
an item on the consent calendar, initiated ostensibly by the current
city attorney, wants authorization to use “law students to be
certified to perform certain functions normally performed by a
licensed attorney.”
Do those who believe in Darwin’s law of evolution, after looking
back on our federal, state, county and City Council acrobatics, still
cling to the law of evolution over that of creation?
