Orange Coast College will host fair in March

Recruiters from dozens of colleges and universities will be at

Orange Coast College’s Spring College Fair on Tuesday, March 18.

Representatives from public and private colleges will be available to

talk with students about transferring, scholarships, fees and

expenses, transfer requirements, athletics and housing. The

recruiters will be stationed in OCC’s Quad from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. OCC

is at 2701 Fairview Road in Costa Mesa.

Susan G. Komen hockey night here again

The Orange County affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer

Foundation will host the fourth annual Komen Race for the Cure Night

at Arrowhead pond to watch the Mighty Ducks and the New York Rangers.

The “free hat night” event will begin at 7:30 p.m., reserved seating

on the Terrace Concourse will be available for $19.50. The Komen foundation will receive $6 of every ticket that is sold to support

breast cancer research, education, screening and treatment in Orange

UCI psychologist shares memory research

UC Irvine cognitive psychologist Elizabeth Loftus will present her

latest research on memory recall at the American Assn. for the

Advancement of Science annual meeting in Denver. The symposium

“Remembering Traumatic Experiences in childhood: Reliability and

Limitations of Memory” began Sunday.

Loftus has done research for three decades proving that memory is

highly susceptible to distortion and contamination. She has shown

that people can be led to remember experiences even when they had not

occurred, also showing that eyewitness accounts, notably those in

given in court, have often been proven inaccurate. She has served as

an expert witness or consultant on high profile trials like the

Rodney King beating and Bosnian war trials.

Bahia to introduce the harbor patrol Thursday

Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club will host a seminar “Meet the Newport

Beach Harbor Patrol” from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday.

The event is free, and will feature new representatives from the

harbor patrol including Lt. Greg Russell who will discuss new

approaches to homeland security, and Deputy Pat Douglas who will

discuss firefighting, lifesaving and boating in general. He will also

demonstrate some techniques on firefighting and lifesaving. A Harbor

Patrol fireboat will be docked at the yacht club for attendees to

board and learn about the boat.

“Going to Ensenada the Easy Way,” another seminar in the Pacific

Trends Series will be on March 12, and “Circumnavigation with Kids

Aboard,” on March 20.

Sanitary district gives Girl Scouts a gift

The Costa Mesa Sanitary District gave the Costa Mesa Girl Scouts a

$100 donation at its meeting on Jan. 9. The funds were raised from

tires sold from a Model A car that had been brought in to the tire

recycling event held by the District. The funds will be used to

support scouting activities, such as the annual community camping

event.

Microsoft to use Costa Mesa company’s device

Emulex Corp., on Monday, announced that one of its host bus

adapters has won qualification from Microsoft Corp.

Microsoft will use the Costa Mesa tech company’s LightPulse

two-gigabyte-per-second LP982 PCI-X device as part of Windows Server

2003 operating system, which is expected to be launched in April.

Microsoft, after a rigorous testing period, decided to hand the

device its “designed for Windows” moniker.

The networking device is compatible with Fibre Channel

applications. Emulex trades on the New York Stock Exchange as ELX.

It’s shares closed Friday at $18.51, down 71 cents, or 3.99%.
