‘Eaters sweep a pair

The UC Irvine men’s tennis team swept a pair of matches Sunday in

the UC Challenge, handling UC Riverside, 7-0, and earning a 6-1

triumph over UC Davis at Anteater Tennis Stadium.

In the afternoon match against Riverside, the Big West Conference

opener for both schools, the Anteaters (4-2) dominated the singles

competition, winning all six matches in straight sets.

UCI Junior Jonathan Endrikat and sophomore Brian Morton defeated

their singles foes, 6-4, 6-0, while freshman Eric Yandoc also won 12

of 16 games, posting a 6-2, 6-2 singles win.

Anteater senior Greg Biorkman and freshman teammate Peter Surapol

each posted 6-4, 6-2 singles wins, while junior Zoran Korac was a

6-3, 7-6 singles winner.

Endrikat and Morton teamed to win in doubles, 8-3, while UCI

doubles partners Korac and Chris Prentice were 8-1 doubles winners

against Riverside.

In the earlier nonconference conquest of UC Davis Sunday, the

Anteaters won 5 of 6 singles matches and claimed the doubles point by

winning two of three contests.

Morton and Korac earned victories in singles and teamed with

different partners to defeat doubles opponents, as well.

Morton was a 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 singles winner over Kyle Trinosky, then

paired with Endrikat for an 8-3 doubles triumph.

Korac bested singles opponent Paul Dilloway, 6-1, 6-1, then teamed

with senior Sean O’Conner to post an 8-3 doubles victory.

The Anteaters return to action Friday, hosting Big West rival Cal

Poly San Luis Obispo at 1 p.m.
