Newport Classic on tap

The fourth annual Newport Harbor High Classic Surf Event will be

held from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 1-2 at 56th Street in Newport Beach.

Trophies and prizes will be awarded to the top six in each of

eight divisions. The divisions include: elementary short board

(kindergarten through fifth grade); middle school short board (grades

6-8); high school short board (grades 9-12); open short board; body

board; long board; women’s long/short board; and expression (tricks).

Surfers of any age can compete in the open divisions.

Entry fee is $25 and includes a logo T-shirt and lunch on the

second day. All proceeds benefit the Newport Harbor High club surf

team.

Newport Beach standout surfers Josh Hoyer and Geoff Moyosa will be

in attendance.

The preliminary heats will be held Saturday leading up to the

finals on Sunday.

A raffle and gifts from sponsors will be presented on the final

day.
