Laguna rallies past Cypress

Laguna Beach’s boys’ eighth-grade All-Net team came back from a
four-point halftime deficit to claim a 54-50 victory over Cypress in
National Junior Basketball action at Laguna Beach High.
Trailing 24-20 at the intermission, Laguna turned the game around
by outscoring Cypress, 19-9, in the third quarter.
Laguna big man Bobby Monroe again played big, scoring 22 points to
go along with 10 rebounds.
Nathan Pickett had a red-hot hand, too, as he consistently hit
from the free throw line area and racked up 17 points.
Pickett also grabbed five rebounds.
Ian Butters added six points and two assists and controlled the
game’s tempo with his solid ball-handling.
Ty Fleming scored six points and secured the victory by hitting a
pair of foul shots with seven seconds remaining.
Chris Hyden contributed three points and had a team-high five
assists, and Brennan Healy and Patrick Curran each crashed the
boards.
The victory raised Laguna’s record to 5-1 as the team prepares to
host the El Modena Hills Bruins in a 12:15 p.m. tipoff on Super Bowl
Sunday.
