A bye-bye to good pies

It always hurts when a city loses a piece of its history.

And unfortunately Newport Beach lost a landmark in the form of the

Westcliff Drive Coco’s earlier this month.

Sure, there are other Coco’s at which to enjoy a double chocolate

silk pie. In fact, there are four other Coco’s in Newport Beach, the

city where the restaurant was founded. And there’s yet another one in

Costa Mesa.

But not all of them have history -- 40 years of history to be

exact.

Fortunate, however, is that even though that particular Coco’s

closed, those who worked there still have jobs at two other Coco’s in

the city. Many owe thanks to the chain that originated in Corona del

Mar for that.

But, still, we wish they could have continued working at the

Westcliff site. It had a long history and they were part of it.
